Coping with Cancer
Since the late 1990’s I have been a provider of psychological services offered by the American Cancer Society for individuals who have been diagnosed with a terminal cancer. I also work with their families: spouses, parents and children.
I help these clients cope with the shock of knowing they have less than a year to live. I help them communicate their needs to their physicians, nurses and and families. I help them find a perspective on their coming death and find ways, consistent with their values and spiritual beliefs, to tell their parents, spouses and children about their condition.
Knowing that one faces the end of life is horrible, but I’ve also seen what a wonderful time of life it can be, with individuals and their loved-ones treasuring each moment left to them.
